Vicki Hitchen passed away in 1995

Vicki Hitchen was a public health nurse who worked for many years with the people of the Spalumcheen, Adams Lake, Neskonlith, Little Shuswap and Okanagan First Nations.

Many stories illustrate Vicki’s special affinity with the aboriginal peoples of the Shuswap and North Okanagan, and of their love and respect for her.

When Vicki died in 1995, her long-time friend, Mary Romeril created a $50,000 endowment fund to generate two scholarships or bursaries annually in perpetuity to support students from the First Nations with whom Vicki worked. The Vicki Hitchen Memorial Fund, which is managed by the Shuswap Community Foundation, now has a total contributed capital of $58,000.
