Education

The Sholinder Family Endowment was established to support local students as they pursue their educational goals and build successful futures. Reflecting the values of hard work, dedication, and community involvement that defined Fay Sholinder’s life, the fund provides an annual bursary to graduating students from the Shuswap region.

The bursary alternates each year between a student pursuing post-secondary education or training in a vocation or skilled trade, and a student who has demonstrated excellence in sports while continuing their education.

The fund honours the legacy of Fay Sholinder, who moved to Salmon Arm with his family in 1972 and became a well-known and respected member of the community. An entrepreneur, volunteer, and community builder, Fay owned and operated Fayden Electric before helping oversee the expansion of the Salmon Arm Golf Course as Works Supervisor. He was actively involved with both the Salmon Arm Golf Club and the Salmon Arm Curling Club and remained a dedicated volunteer throughout his retirement.

Known for his strong work ethic, practical problem-solving, sense of humour, and commitment to family, Fay believed in staying engaged, helping others, and making the most of life’s opportunities. These values continue through the Sholinder Family Endowment, supporting future generations as they pursue their own goals and aspirations.

Through this fund, Fay’s legacy lives on by helping young people access educational opportunities and build meaningful futures within their communities.
