He was never one to sit still or be idle in life – he was always pursuing something or planning his next adventure.
The Jaxon Endowment Fund was created to honour the incredible legacy of Jaxon, born June 27th, 2018. Jaxon spent the early months of his life wrapped in a special blanket inscribed with the words “brave, fighter, warrior, superhero” a testament to his resilient spirit. For 1,493 days, Jaxon was a little fighter and a true miracle, touching the hearts of everyone around him.
In 2022, Shuswap Community Foundation received a record-breaking donation of almost $1.6 million from an anonymous donor who requested that the funds be used to support local entrepreneurs and businesses. This is the largest donation in the Foundation’s history and has resulted in the creation of the JOBS Endowment Fund.
SAMA established the Salmon Arm Métis Association Bursary Fund to help Métis youth pursue their post secondary education. Income from the fund is disbursed to School District #83, which awards two bursaries annually to Métis students who have registered in a post secondary educational or vocational program at an accredited institution.
David and Maureen Wooliams passionately believe in the value and benefits of exercise, social interaction, good nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices. They created the Quality4Life Fund to support people and organizations in the Shuswap that provide physical, mental, and social services which lead to an improved quality of life.

The Shuswap Community Foundation offers a variety of giving options. Whether it’s setting up an endowment fund, contributing to an existing fund, or making a legacy gift, we work with you to meet your financial needs and your personal philanthropic goals.
A gift of publicly traded securities can be an attractive option. The Income Tax Act provides that capital gains on securities donated to a charity are exempt from tax, but the donor will receive a tax receipt for the full appreciated value. The donor will receive a tax receipt for the value of the stock at the time of transfer, and may carry forward for up to five years any unused portions of the gift. Please talk to a Director, your professional adviser, or broker to make stock transfers easily. You may download the Share Transfers Form for when you meet with your broker.
Donors may name the Foundation as the owner and beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy. Tax receipts are given for either the cash surrender value of an existing policy, or for premiums paid. This is one of the most popular “planned giving” vehicles. Because there are several options available, please talk to your professional advisor for help in making this gift.
Involving your children and grandchildren in philanthropy is an excellent way to share your beliefs and your values. A family endowment fund established with a community foundation is a great place to start.
An endowment fund is a forever legacy and a generous commitment of giving back to your community. A very popular way of making a gift to the Foundation is by cash or cheque. This is an attractive method for a donor who has cash available and who wants to make an immediate donation. The Foundation is able to invest the donation immediately to generate income to support community projects. The donor is provided with a receipt for income tax purposes.
Shuswap Community Foundation has linked up with CanadaHelps to make donating easy. It is convenient and quick; moreover it is not necessary to request in writing that the donation be endowed in perpetuity. The Canada Revenue Agency supports this method of making gifts to your community. Make an online donation through CanadaHelps.

Community-building funds have gained popularity across Canadian community foundations. Gifts to these funds are unrestricted, which means that donors entrust the Foundation with the allocation of grant dollars. The SCF Community Fund supports a wide variety of needs and community projects throughout the Shuswap region.
John Fleming was most passionate about two things — music and art. After John’s death in 2020, the Fleming family established the “Brother John” Fleming Memorial Fund in his memory as a bursary for a high school student wishing to continue studies in music or fine arts. The bursary honours John’s love for all the arts.
The Shuswap Lifeboat Society (SLS) supports the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Shuswap Station 106 (RCMSAR), a team of dedicated volunteers committed to saving lives on the water. SLS partnered with Shuswap Community Foundation to create an endowment fund to help cover annual operating costs.
Ulrich and Margarete decided that they had personally gained so much from the community that they wanted to find a way to give something back. After doing their research they chose to establish an endowment with Shuswap Community Foundation. They like the way funds are distributed across so many different local organizations.
