Barb Hillson worked in the Culinary Arts Program at Salmon Arm Senior Secondary for twenty years. She loved working with the students, where she would chat while chopping to ensure she really got to know each student. Once a student worked with Barb in this program she would consider them a “chef kid” and they would always be special to her.

Any time Barb was walking around Salmon Arm, throughout the Okanagan and even the North Thompson she would bump into past “chef kids” and be delighted. She would instantly know their names and special things about them.

Barb truly loved each and every one of the students she worked with in the Culinary Arts Program. She would be very happy to know she is helping future “chef kids”.

The Barb Hillson Memorial Scholarship disbursements shall be made in the form of one or more grants awarded in the name of the Fund to School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap), or its successor (the “School District”). These grants shall be used by the School District to fund scholarships, awarded in the name of the Fund, for students graduating from any secondary school within the School District’s boundaries who have participated in a culinary arts program and who intend to pursue post-secondary education or training in any field.

Scholarship recipients shall be selected by the School District based on demonstrated academic ability, good character, and a record of outstanding leadership. If sufficient income is available, the School District may, at its discretion, award more than one scholarship in the name of the Fund each year.
