The Susan Latimer Bursary Fund was established to support students who may face financial barriers in pursuing their educational goals. The fund honours the life and legacy of Susan Latimer, a dedicated educator, union advocate, and community supporter whose greatest passion was helping young people succeed.
For nearly 30 years, Susan worked in School District No. 83 as a Certified Education Assistant and lunch-hour supervisor. Known affectionately by many students as “Grandma Susan,” she built meaningful relationships with generations of young people and took great pride in supporting their growth, confidence, and well-being.
Susan believed strongly in fairness, opportunity, and standing up for others. A committed member of CUPE, she served for many years on the local executive and negotiating team, advocating for education workers and the students they served.
Above all, Susan was known for her generous spirit and her willingness to help anyone in need. Whether supporting family, friends, colleagues, or members of the community, she approached life with compassion, humour, and an unwavering commitment to others.
The Susan Latimer Bursary Fund continues her legacy by providing assistance to students who require additional support to pursue post-secondary education and training. Through this fund, Susan’s dedication to helping young people build brighter futures lives on for generations to come.
