Cody moved with his family at age five to Sorrento. He attended Sorrento Elementary, JL Jackson, and graduated from Salmon Arm Senior Secondary in 2003.
Cody was a kind-hearted young man who people admired. He was always surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed many sports and spent as many hours as possible out on the lake.
Cody joined the Shuswap Volunteer Fire Department with his brothers as soon as he was eligible. He was proud to be a part of the Fire Team. He loved going over to the school to do demonstrations for the kindergarten kids for the department and was quick to respond whenever the alarms sounded.
After his death in an industrial accident at Adams Lake Saw Mill his colleagues wanted to do something to honour Cody that would be ongoing and resonate with the young people of the community. They chose to establish a fund with the Shuswap Community Foundation that would create an income in perpetuity, providing the means to award, every year, a bursary to a student intending to pursue a career in emergency services.
In the spring of 2010, at Sorrento Elementary, a beautiful playground was constructed and named after Cody. It was an inspiring community project initiated by the parent’s association.
Shuswap Lake General Hospital displays a memory board of all donators to the hospital which has a story about Cody and others who have made significant contributions to the hospital.
Cody was a modest young man who would be very proud to know how much impact he made on this small community. Thank you to everyone for helping to keep his memory alive.
