The Okanagan Wildfire Coexistence Fund will expand UBC Okanagan wildfire research program and opens the door to even greater innovation.
With wildfires becoming a part of our yearly summer preparations, Shuswap Community Foundation supports ways we can contribute to safer, more fire-resilient communities in the Shuswap. That’s why we’ve collaborated with Central Okanagan Foundation, Community Foundation North Okanagan and the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen, on a $65,000 donation to UBC Okanagan‘s Okanagan Wildfire Coexistence Fund.
Our contribution is supporting researchers at the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Science as they develop new tools and technologies to improve wildfire monitoring and response. This work includes the development of a province-wide remote wildfire camera and wildfire weather sensor network.
