Salmon Arm, BC — The Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Monica Sigurdson as its new Executive Director. The announcement was made today by John White, President of the Board, following a thorough and extensive selection process.
Monica joins the Foundation as she and her family settle into Salmon Arm from Manitoba. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), she brings more than a decade of leadership experience in Canadian philanthropy and social finance. Her background includes building innovative programs, stewarding major partnerships, and strengthening community-based giving across a range of organizations.
Most recently, Monica served as Director of Philanthropy at iDE Canada, where she led national fundraising efforts in support of international development programs. Her work spanned major gifts, legacy giving, and strategic donor engagement to advance initiatives that support women entrepreneurs and sustainable livelihoods around the world.
Prior to her time at iDE, Monica spent six years at the Jubilee Fund in Manitoba, serving as Fund Development Manager. During her tenure, she helped launch Canada’s first Rent Guarantee Program for at-risk women and secured multimillion-dollar social-finance partnerships aimed at reducing poverty at the local level. Her work involved collaborating closely with businesses and investors to bring ethical capital to community-based initiatives.
Monica has also been an active contributor to the Canadian gift-planning community. She has served on the board of the Manitoba chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and presented at both regional and national events on legacy and planned giving practices.
John White, President of the Shuswap Community Foundation, welcomed the appointment.
“Monica brings a strong combination of experience, community-minded leadership, and a deep understanding of philanthropy. Her track record of building partnerships and supporting local solutions will serve the Shuswap well. We are delighted to have her leading the Foundation into its next chapter.”
Monica shared her enthusiasm for the role and the region.
“I am honoured to join the Shuswap Community Foundation and look forward to connecting with local donors, organizations, and volunteers. The Shuswap has a strong spirit of generosity, and I’m excited to help nurture a giving ecosystem that reflects the needs and strengths of this community.”
Outside of her professional work, Monica enjoys being outdoors and coaching basketball. She looks forward to making new connections throughout the region as she and her family establish roots in Salmon Arm.
